January and February are the most difficult months in Alaska as far as I’m concerned. Sure, the days are getting longer but we’ve still got at least ten weeks of winter left to go. To avoid late frosts, the prudent back-yard gardener won’t plant outside until after Memorial Day so Stephanie and I decided to reach beyond (ok, way beyond) our local food shed and subscribe to Full Circle Farm’s CSA program.

We won’t be able to assess cost and quality until after we start receiving our boxes, but Stephanie and I were immediately struck by how many pick-up points for the program there are in our area. One question we’ll have to answer as the seasons change and truly local produce becomes available: How significant is the impact of this CSA out of Carnation, Washington, on our Palmer-area farms?
